Wholewheat/wholegrain bread
This is usually similar in texture and colour to white bread, however, it is usually made using flour that is partly or entirely milled from whole or almost-whole wheat grains.
Seeded Varieties
It is no secret that sunflower and seeded breads are among some of my absolute favourite breads! These breads are a different type of slice if your'e used to the usual loaf of bread. These delights are not as soft as usual bread, with a crunchier bite, nutty aroma and malty taste. It can be enjoyed fresh or toasted and can be used as you would use any other bread! My most-liked combination for these type of breads is peanut butter and jam (yes, I love the 'american version' of a peanut-butter and jelly sarnie) or if I'm in savoury mood, I can't resist some caramelised red onion houmous, smashed avocado, rocket, vine-cherry tomatoes, seasoned with S&P and drizzled with olive oil and sweet balsamic vinegar! Yum-Yum.
Benefits of seeded varieties
(i.e.sunflower, pumpkin, poppy, sesame, hemp and chai seeds): High in vitamins E, iron, copper, B Vitamins, thiamine, phosphorus, calcium, folate and selenium. Sunflower, pumpkin and hemp seeds are a great source of essential fatty acids (essential means the body requires these fats through dietary intake as it's unable to get them through any other form); their specific fatty acids are known as linoleic acid. Additionally, sunflower seeds are a good source of tryptophan (αn amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins). Seeds are also a great source of fiber, B Vitamins, protein, iron, folate and phytosterols (which help to lower cholesterol) to name a few. The healthy fats found in most seeds help the body regulate hormones, act as transporters of essential fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and have essential antioxidants.
